OTTO JUNKER provides support on the path to climate neutrality

Neuman Aluminium Strangpresswerk GmbH, part of the globally active Neuman Aluminium Group with around 2,500 employees, has completely electrified its existing bolt heating system. Together with OTTO JUNKER GmbH, the previously gas-fired preheating furnace was converted to electric heating—an important step on the road to climate-neutral production.

Electrification implemented in a short period of time

The modernization took place in the first quarter of 2025 during a short interruption in operations and in close coordination with the company. Planning, implementation, and commissioning were supported by the OTTO JUNKER service team.

“The project team impressed us with their comprehensive technical expertise and precise implementation. The system runs stably, energy-efficiently, and completely without fossil fuels – thus fulfilling our decarbonization strategy and bringing us a big step closer to climate-neutral production,” says Mr. Schatko, Technical Manager of the extrusion plant.

CO₂-free process heat

With electrification, Neuman Aluminium can now heat its 8-inch aluminum rods with clean energy. The elimination of gas heating reduces operational emissions in the area of process heat to zero. Another advantage is the high efficiency: the electric heating coil candles used convert more than 90 percent of the energy fed in directly into process heat – a significant efficiency gain compared to the previous gas heating system. Depending on the production volume, the aluminum rods can be preheated from room temperature to up to 480 °C.

Making existing systems fit for the future

The project highlights the potential that lies in modernizing existing systems. “Through targeted retrofits, companies can make decisive progress toward climate neutrality in the short term—with solutions that can be integrated into ongoing operations. Sustainability also means further developing existing systems,” emphasizes Stefan Krieger from OTTO JUNKER's service department.

Flexibility for transformation

In addition to purely electric solutions, OTTO JUNKER also offers the system type with hybrid heating. This allows companies to optimize their energy supply.
