Mr Wöstmann, you recently entered into a partnership with Lenord+Bauer to develop an outer rotor electric motor using Cast Coils. What makes this project stand out?
Franjo Wöstmann: On a technical level, the project brings together two companies that combine their respective strengths to create added value and launch a new product. But what is much more important are the people involved and the spirit of the companies that dare to break new ground, combining innovation, entrepreneurship and fun in the process. That’s what defines this project and what will make it a success.
Why is it so important that this motor is manufactured entirely in Europe?
Wöstmann: In recent years, supply and process chains have increasingly relied on imports while transferring know-how abroad. That can make sense in terms of cooperative partnerships. However, the much-lauded global sourcing approach, paired with constant price pressure, has led to dependencies that are now putting European supply chains at risk.
If we want an energy transition and sustainable production – not least to safeguard jobs in Europe – we need to act independently while fostering cooperation. That’s why we are consciously focusing the value chain within Europe.
The production of the first prototypes is just around the corner. Are you expecting any challenges?
Wöstmann: The motor production process is new territory for both partners, and we’re looking forward to the challenges that come with it. At the moment, we are bringing together the necessary supply chain partners – and we’re encountering broad support.
That said, there will certainly be several hurdles along the way to full implementation, especially due to price pressure from Asia. But we’ll overcome them with new solutions, higher performance and quality, and sustainable manufacturing practices.
