The automotive supplier developed the high-voltage battery housing in collaboration with the customer. The focus was on a one-piece product design. The previous components were made up of around 130 individual parts. In addition to the substitution of individual components, which were previously mainly manufactured from extruded profiles, the one-piece design promises cost savings of around 30 per cent during production.
Millions Invested in Biberach Production Site
In this context, the family-owned foundry is investing a mid-range, double-digit million amount in the production site and headquarters in Biberach/Riss in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. This will turn the plant into the hub for the electric powertrain.
"The growing importance of e-mobility also plays a central role at Handtmann," says Jens Hansmeier, Plant Manager of Production in Biberach. "We see ourselves as a strong partner for the future of the automotive industry. Together with our customers, we are committed to the consistent implementation of transformation through innovation."
