Siemens and machine manufacturers form alliance for industrial AI data
Siemens has entered into a strategic data alliance with leading machine tool manufacturers, including Grob, Trumpf, Chiron, Renishaw, and Heller, as well as the WZL Machine Tool Laboratory at RWTH Aachen University and the Voith Group. The aim is to systematically exchange engineering, manufacturing, and machine data for the development of generative AI applications for industrial production.

The cooperation marks a key step toward the Siemens Industrial Foundation Model, an industry-specific AI system that Siemens first unveiled at Hannover Messe 2025.
“Together with customers and partners, we are taking a significant step today toward scaling industrial AI,” says Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens AG.
“I see a great opportunity here for Europe's economy with its strong industrial base. By making our companies' data treasure trove available for generative AI, we can achieve completely new levels of productivity – and the data alliance in mechanical engineering is leading the way.”
AI for more efficient manufacturing and faster development cycles
The alliance aims to significantly increase efficiency and innovation speed in the manufacturing industry through AI technologies. A key area of application is the automated creation of part programs for machine tools. In the future, these programs could be generated much faster and with fewer errors – developers would be relieved of routine tasks and could focus more on complex tasks.
“Access to high-quality machine data from different manufacturers is the key,” explains Busch.
“With this alliance, we can develop AI systems that understand the complexity of development and manufacturing, making them a powerful partner for skilled workers.”

Focus on data sovereignty and security
The partnership provides for the exchange of anonymized machine data in strict compliance with data protection and security standards. This data is used in the development and training of AI models that are specifically tailored to industrial requirements.
Planned areas of application include:
- Automated NC program creation for machine tools,
- predictive maintenance with precise machine-specific forecasts,
- adaptive manufacturing processes that adjust to changing conditions in real time,
energy efficiency optimization through AI-supported control of machine parameters.
Expansion of the alliance planned
In the long term, the alliance is to be opened up to other companies – even beyond the machine tool industry. The aim is to make industrial AI usable across all industries and to strengthen the competitiveness of Europe as a production location.
