Description

In die casting, temperature control units are used to pump the water/oil through the mold. Depending on the size of the tool, 2-8 temperature control units are required. The compact, flow-optimized temperature control manifolds (approx. 100 mm long and 50 mm in diameter) are screwed directly to the outlet and inlet pipes of the temperature control unit and divide the cooling medium flow directly at the temperature control unit into several parallel cooling circuits. This means that the existing circuits can be supplied with fewer temperature control units and temperature control units are no longer required. The bionic design results in optimal fluid mechanics conditions with minimal energy loss. The temperature control manifolds were simulated and optimized using FEM and CFD simulation. To reduce rework and save material, the design rules from metallic 3D printing were used extensively, minimizing rework. This rapidly increases flexibility and adjustments can be made quickly without tools.
(1) Number of temperature control units required is reduced
(2) Modification from turbulent to laminar flow through special internal structure enables further energy savings
(3) Suitable for all temperature control media
(4) Low acquisition costs (amortized in 1-2 months)
(5) Short-term procurement within a few days instead of long waiting times
When using the flow-optimized manifold, approximately every second temperature control unit can be saved, resulting in energy savings of 24-72kWh per day or 8.6-26kg CO2 per day.
