An internationally competitive electricity price is of central importance for the electricity-intensive non-ferrous metals industry.
“The measures that have been decided upon are a positive signal for Germany as an industrial location,” says the association.
“Nevertheless, further structural steps are now needed to bring energy prices to a competitive level in the long term.”
Planning security and cost efficiency are crucial
In order for energy-intensive industry to have a future in Germany again, the focus must be placed more strongly on cost efficiency in the expansion of electricity generation and grid infrastructure. The upcoming monitoring is an important starting point in this regard.
In addition, WVMetalle is calling for the existing relief regulations for energy-intensive companies to be secured in their current scope in the long term. Only in this way can the industry gain the necessary planning security to continue investing in Germany.
Structural problems with grid fees remain
Despite the reduction in the general level of grid fees, the association still sees a need for action.
“Without reliable, long-term relief, the structural problem remains unresolved,” emphasizes WVMetalle.
New burdens on the price of electricity must be avoided at all costs in order not to further jeopardize the competitiveness of the industry.
