Bees between die castings: Siempelkamp sets a visible sign for sustainability

Beekeeper works on honeycomb

The Siempelkamp Foundry has established several bee colonies on its factory premises in Krefeld - in cooperation with a regional beekeeper. The approach goes beyond symbolic measures: it combines industrial production with active environmental protection and makes sustainability a tangible experience for employees, partners and the public.

"For us, sustainability means more than just CO₂ reduction. It also includes the protection of biodiversity and responsibility for our environment," says Managing Director Dr. Georg Geier.

Bees as an environmental indicator and part of the corporate culture

Through their pollination activities, bees make an ecological contribution to local biodiversity and CO₂ sequestration. At the same time, as indicators they reflect the quality of the immediate habitat. The honey bottled under the name “Iron Gold”, produced by the company bees, symbolizes this commitment. Employees receive it as part of the harvest - a visible sign of shared responsibility.

Industry in balance with nature

“For our customers, partners and neighbors, the bees' new home is also a strong sign that industrial production, environmental awareness and good living conditions for people and animals belong together,” says Managing Director Dirk Howe.

The measure is part of the foundry's sustainability strategy, which was the first in its industry to introduce an environmental management system back in 1996.

Scientifically based climate targets

In addition to ecological measures on site, the foundry is also strategically committed to climate protection: as a participant in the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), it bases its climate targets on scientifically sound criteria. Investments in energy efficiency and low-emission processes underline this claim. With “Iron Gold”, a concrete, publicly visible facet has now been added - as an expression of a comprehensive self-image of sustainability in the industry.
