As a new and flexible way to produce parts is Additive manufacturing offering new possibilities for optimization of design and properties. Toolings are an optimal application for additive manufacturing with high demands, short series and an ever increasing demand for short lead times.
So far there have been limited materials to choose from when it comes to print metal parts and they have mostly been developed to be easy to print, not due to demands from the applications. This is a bit unfortunate since the new technology also brings possibilities for optimizing the materials, and that is what we at Uddeholm wants to do using our expertise in tooling materials.
We will develop alloys with focus on the application to bring maximal added value to the user while still being able to be printed.
High quality heat treatment is necessity to achieve full potential of the tooling material. It improves resistance against common failure mechanisms and increases overall performance. For your benefit, we are committed to supporting you with the most appropriate heat treatment service.
Our tool steels are normally delivered in the soft annealed condition, to make it easier for tool makers to machine. The tool steel can then easily be heat treated according to the tool user’s specific needs. Uddeholm can support you with heat treatment services such as soft annealing, stress relieving, hardening and tempering.
Heat treatment services are provided in our own facilities or through exclusive partners. Our service offer may differ between markets.
Pressure Die Casting offers an economical way of producing large quantities of complex, high tolerance parts in aluminium, magnesium, zinc and copper alloys. The material has to withstand both pressure and high temperatures. In recent years, Uddeholm has played a leading role in developing hot work steel to meet the stricter demands of the die casting sector. Long production series are common and place tough demands on tools and materials. The increasing challenges in die cast products will ensure continued development of die casting alloys with higher strength and ductility, improved machinability, weldability and corrosion resistance. We mainly produce clamping and holding plates as well as pre-machined inserts, and we have extensive experience of producing components that really do their job. Selecting material is an important part of the process. Uddeholm has the best knowledge about the best steels on the market – our own steel grades. This is a major benefit in terms of achieving truly excellent results.
