Grunewald develops casting-compatible design for tools and casting parts.

For design and development of casting-compatible parts, Grunewald uses the numerical finite element method (FEM).

Structural-mechanical and thermal calculations for products and tool systems as well as castings simulations are carried out based on a FEM program.

• analysis of stiffness
• heat balance calculations
•  heating-up and cooling rate simulation
•  filling and solidification simulation
•  residual stress calculation (thermal /mechanical)
• calculation of distortion (thermal / mechanical)

In front of production and first casting sample, significant characteristics will be worked out and improved by this procedure.

The objective is the production of zero defect and optimal tools and casting parts.

Grunewald provides NC-milling and measurement of casting parts with our high tech CNC-milling machines as well as CNC-metrology, photogrammmetry and laser measurement equipment.

Furthermore we are able to assemble parts and complete assemblies.

Pattern Making

We prepare  the production of various requirements and quantities with our own pattern shop for our customers, for example:

• manual patterns out of various material
• Rapid Prototyping pattern out of plastic material
• Rapid Prototyping pattern out of metal
• Rapid Prototyping Forms out of sand

Tool Making

In our tool shop we design, build and sample High Pressure Die Casting and Die Casting tools.

Grunewald melts and casts various aluminium alloys:

• alumnium silicone casting alloys
• alumnium magnesium casting alloys
• alumnium cooper castings alloys
• alumnium zinc casting alloys

We cast by low-pressure and gravity casting with a casting weight up to 800kg.

Material – and product-specific heat treatment of casted parts can be performed with our own oven systems.

Casting of thin-walled structural and chassis parts is our strength. We offer:

• Engineering and casting-compatible design
• Numerical Simulation Modelling and FEM-Calculations
• thin-walled aluminum casting with wall thickness of >2mm
• part sizes up to ca. 1.500 mm x 1.200 mm x 400 mm
• hybrid casting wit cast integral of steel parts

With our 3D Sandprinter we produce molds and cores in very short time and achieve the following goals and advantages:

• short development times
• high complexities
• flexibility in combination with conventionel and additive manufactured molds and cores
• high design freedom for mold and casting geometry, undercuts are possible
• genereation of new geometries and products
• economical and near to series production
