Low carbon steel shot FERROSAD has a long life and is extremely durable because it is relatively crack free. Since low carbon after shotting has a largely bainitic microstructure, heat treatment is not required. In most high carbon shot, surface cracking will occur during atomisation which is due to the high carbon content and the resultant high hardness. During the subsequent necessary heat treatment it is possible that the already existing cracks could get even larger.
The low carbon shot is produced by melting only high quality deep-drawing low carbon scrap. As a result of the low carbon content and its purity in terms of harmful elements like sulfur and phosphorous after the atomization process a predominantly bainitic micro structure exists. This bainitic structure has the optimum combination of hardness and toughness which in operation is efficient, resilient and durable.
Due to the bainitic microstructure and its crack free nature, using FERROSAD can significantly reduce shot consumption for our customers compared with other metallic abrasives by more than 20 %.
