Access was established as a registered non-profit-making research association in 1986. Arising from a working group of the Foundry Institute of the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH), Access specialized first in the fundamentals of solidification by using microgravity experiments.
For more than two decades Access has been successfully following the strategy to qualify its science addressing research topics of technological relevance. A creative environment and a state of the art infrastructure support an international and interdisciplinary team. Access teams up with a number of selected partners that broaden and enhance its knowledge and capabilities.
A special interest at Access is to promote the education of students by providing a fascinating opportunity enabling them to pursue their scientific studies with a special focus on industrial applications. We frequently invite young people to get in touch with the world of materials science and technology.
