Full closing report: “The barometer is rising at last!”

  • Expectations exceeded: 7,141 exhibitors from all over the world
  • Exhibitors pleased with high quality of visitors
  • 85 per cent of visitors were decision-makers

Exactly 7,141 trade visitors, one in four from abroad, came to the three-day EUROGUSS in Nürnberg, which ended on 21 January 2010.1 “Despite the economic crisis, the number of visitors and the international share was increased over the boom year 2008. This shows the tremendous importance and appreciation EUROGUSS enjoys in the die casting industry,” says Heike Slotta, Exhibition Director at NürnbergMesse. The lectures at the 10th International Die Casting Congress, which took place for the first time at the heart of the exhibition, were also very well attended.

“The die casting foundries have closed ranks at EUROGUSS and are approaching the expected upturn with great determination and new ideas, even though they are still concerned about turnover, equity development and returns,” sums up Gerhard Eder, Chairman of the Association of German Die Casting Foundries (VDD). Dr. Gutmann Habig, General Secretary of CEMAFON, The European Foundry Equipment Suppliers Association, says: “The European-based manufacturers of equipment for the die casting foundries have regarded the exhibition as an early and key indicator of development in the demand for machinery and plant. It became clear at the exhibition that the barometer is rising at last! Although not all adjustment processes have been completed yet and project inquiries must first lead to actual investment, the mood was encouragingly confident.”

The 364 exhibitors at EUROGUSS, including 44 per cent international, presented a broad spectrum of products ranging from die castings, materials, furnaces, die casting machines and moulds to after treatment, quality control and research & development. Issues that currently occupy the German die casting industry are the “cheap foreign competition”, high energy costs, the rising costs of metal raw materials, and R&D activities.

Results of the survey of exhibitors and visitors
The exhibitors and visitors at EUROGUSS were interviewed by an independent market research institute. The data are representative. It was noticeable in the visitor survey that visits were planned at very short notice. Every second visitor had decided to travel to Nürnberg during the last two weeks before the exhibition, and four per cent even decided on the actual day of travel. The exhibitors were particularly pleased about the high quality of the visitors on their stands, which is confirmed by the results of the visitor survey: more than 50 per cent work in management positions. 85 per cent said they influenced procurement decisions in their companies, some of them decisively. As expected, the car manufacturers and component suppliers were represented especially strongly with almost 40 per cent of the visitors. The die casting foundries accounted for 19 per cent. 11 per cent of the EUROGUSS visitors came from the machinery and plant manufacturers and 5 per cent from the electrical and electronic industries.

As far as exhibitors are concerned, 95 per cent made new business connections at EUROGUSS, and 92 per cent of them expect follow-up business. Exhibiting was so successful for 88 per cent of the exhibitors that they expect to exhibit again at EUROGUSS 2012 in Nürnberg.

Coming dates
The next EUROGUSS takes place in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from Tuesday to Thursday, 17–19 January 2012 . In the odd years when EUROGUSS does not take place, the die casting experts meet at the International Die Casting Congress. The next congress will be held on
22–23 February 2011, also in Nürnberg, in the CCN West congress centre.
